For Marlborough’s very first Diamond Jubilee event to be a financial as well as a social success the organisers of the Chamber of Commerce Olympic Jubilee Ball at the town hall on Saturday need to sell another 40 tickets.
The ball, including a three course dinner, will be the first of more than 22 events taking place in the town to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Any profits from the ball will go to SWIFT Medics, the county-wide emergency response team set up by Marlborough GP Jonathan Glover and which ensures seriously injured road accident casualties or other medical emergencies get the best possible treatment before they are taken to hospital by ambulance.
The first big event run by the current chamber of commerce committee was a fashion show last October which raised £1,500 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
Chamber chairman Paul Shimell, a director of Specsavers in Marlborough, is organising the ball together with Effie Robins, manager of Joules fashion store also in the High Street.
He told the Gazette: “We still need to sell another 40 tickets to cover costs. We have lots of auction prizes and raffle prizes which will raise money. we just need to fill the hall.”
The ball a black tie event with a champagne reception, a three course dinner by Morans of Marlborough and dancing to the band Echo; starting at 7 for 7.30pm and going on until 1am.
Prizes in the auction and raffle include a meal for four in London and a guided tour of Lloyds; tickets for a Wembley soccer international in the autumn and £250 of John Lewis vouchers.
Tickets cost £40 and can be obtained from Joules (01672) 516056 or from Specsavers.
