THE finals of the FA Peoples Cup await for members of the Wiltshire Walking Football Club, who crushed last year's champions Wokingham with a single goal.

The club, led by manager and coach Jon Hayton, won the semi-finals on March 24 in style with a single goal scored by captain Tony Norton from his own half.

The team, which consists of Tony Norton, Perry Kinneir, Ian Wilkinson, John Floyd, Dave Heskett, Dean Herring and Alphie Archer, will travel to St Georges Park, home of the England team, to take part in the final where the top eight teams out of 200 will compete to claim champion status.

"The whole team have worked so hard to get to this point," Mr Hayton said. "We are so excited to be playing in the final."

Walking football, which started at Stanley Sports Ground back in 2014, now hosts 14 sessions a week across the county and has 460 registered players and 800 people attending each month.

Councillor Sandie Webb said:“This is brilliant news for our walking football team, they have done so well to get this far in the championship. We wish them luck for the final.”
