YOUNG musicians are set to get another chance to play at Chippenham's biggest live music venue as the popular Take the Stage battle of the bands competition returns for the third year.

The competition, which starts on Friday (Feb 2) at the Neeld, has been organised by Riverbank Studios and will see 12 young bands compete across four heats for a place in the final, with prizes such as free studio time, an opening slot at Fieldview Festival and a mainstage slot at ChippFest on offer.

Guy Britton, studio manager at Riverbank Studios said: “It’s really important that towns and communities support live music and particularly venues that give young bands opportunities to play.

"Live music has been on the decline in the area for a long time now and the previous years’ Take The Stage shows have shown that there are so many talented acts coming up in the area but the struggle for them is always finding venues to play.

"At Riverbank our aim has always been to address this issue and give young musicians a place to find their feet. We’re really grateful that The Neeld have been continuously supportive of this project and it’s great to see more live music coming to Chippenham."

The heats, which are bi-weekly, start at 7.30pm, with tickets costing £3.
