The young male driver who sustained life threatening injuries in a crash on the A3102 at Hilmarton this morning has died.

The man, believed to be from the Swindon area, was driving a black Vauxhall Corsa from Lyneham towards Calne when it appears he lost control on a bend and the car collided with a wall outside Manor Farm, Hilmarton.

The man, who was the sole occupant of the Corsa, was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol following the crash just before 9am.

Police and fire crew were called to the scene along with two air ambulances, and officers from CSI are currently gathering forensic information.

Hilmarton resident and vice chairman of road safety group HAGGIS Geoff Procter said: "Most people just heard a loud bang and were amazed at how quickly the helicopter arrived."
