A young driver has been air lifted to hospital following a serious crash in Hilmarton.

The driver of a Vauxhall Corsa travelling from the Goatacre direction on the A3102 hit the kerb outside the Duke hotel and the bus stop at around 9am.

The car then collided with a large tree in the entrance to Manor Farm and the driver was air lifted to Frenchay Hospital shortly after.

Police and fire crew were called to the scene along with two air ambulances, and officers from CSI are currently gathering forensic information.

Hilmarton resident and vice chairman of road safety group HAGGIS Geoff Procter said: "Most people just heard a loud bang and were amazed at how quickly the helicopter arrived."
