When people refer to their desire for a white wedding, there are not many who mean that their dreams include snow on their big day.

But Sharon Burton (nee Whetton), from Mile Elm, near Calne, who married Jon Burton at Calne Town Hall, really got into the festive mood at a magical Christmas-themed wedding and reception.

Mrs Burton said: “Everyone got into the Christmas spirit, a lot of people said it was the best wedding they have ever been to. It was one big show really.

“People will be talking about it for years to come. They really enjoyed it, and it was fantastic to see everyone get into the Christmas spirit.

“It was a really good start to the Christmas season. Everyone had gone to a lot of effort, which was wonderful.”

Mrs Burton arrived at her reception on Saturday, December 20, in the Calne Lions Christmas sleigh alongside Father Christmas before posing for photos next to the town hall Christmas tree.

During the wedding breakfast guests enjoyed a full Christmas dinner, with turkey, mulled wine, mince pies and a snow machine, while New Voices choir performed a mini carol concert for the 150 guests.

Mrs Burton wore a red dress with a white snow cape while her new husband went for a festive green suit with a red top hat.

Although the unusual idea was hers, Mrs Burton said her husband and their friends were all for the theme, including Christmas ties, jumpers and hats.

Friends decorated the hall with holly and ivy while others made Christmas crackers for the bridesmaids and best man’s presents.

She said: “We had a wonderful time, it was magical.”
