A popular Spanish restaurant in Marlborough has announced it will close temporarily while major repairs and refurbishment take place.
Tipi Tapa Cuisine first opened in Hilliers Yard in June 2022 and was a huge hit.
The tapas restaurant is the only place serving authentic Spanish food in Marlborough, but the establishment has struggled with a persistent electrical fault.
“The entire property is run on electricity including the kitchen,” said owner David Wenborn. "We have had issues with the kitchen electric tripping, sometimes seven or eight times during service and unfortunately, the consumer unit is next to customer seating.
David and Nigel, who co-run the business, have now announced that Tipi Tapa will remain closed throughout February in order to repair the fault and make improvements.
“Our plan is to run an independent supply to the kitchen with its own consumer unit and rewire the kitchen," said David.
“We will also take advantage of this downtime to change colour schemes and add other items/furniture to the decor.
"We are aiming to reopen during the first week of March and look forward to seeing everyone again then."
Tipi Tapa has made a name for itself not only due to its great food but also the kindness of the staff.
During unprecedented flooding which hit the town on January 5, 2024, the restaurant also opened up its doors and offered free hot meals to Marlborough residents whose homes had been flooded.
