Congratulations to Cassie the greyhound for winning £750 for the Swindon branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust (Gazette, October 1).
As an international greyhound protection organisation, we were also very pleased to learn that Cassie herself has found a home, after failing to make the grade as a racer.
She is truly one of the lucky ones, as according to our most recent research, as many as 15,000 greyhounds, bred for the British racing industry, are put to death every year, after failing to make the grade or when their careers on the tracks come to an end.
That is why we are appealing to the public not to attend or bet on greyhound racing, so that this appalling death industry fades away through lack of financial support.
