THE removal of unlicensed narrow boats is a matter for the Canal And Rivers Trust. My principal concern has been the extended stays by boats alongside the Wharf in Devizes and the canal bank opposite, where the 48 and 72-hour periods for permitted stays is being abused.
The prolonged occupancy of these berths by frequently unoccupied boats, does little for the character of the location and not much for the town’s economy.
A ‘churn’ of visitors coming and going would be much more beneficial in every respect, avoiding the contempt of fellow boat-owners denied the privilege of using such berths.
