The EU is an anti-democratic project that is set to fail.

Democracy is a fine system through which you can hold politicians to account, make your opinion heard and collectively shape the future of your country. Unfortunately, the EU is anything but democratic, it’s an anti-democratic union that operates on a structure of bureaucrats electing bureaucrats.

The significant issue with this system is that it enables them to conduct their own affairs without being held responsible. Not only does this lack of consequence detach them from the best interests of the member states, but it also results in false confidence within their projects, exemplified by the euro and migrant crisis.

While there are disturbingly real faults with the political system used by the EU, the UK did not choose to join this union. In 1975 we voted to remain within the common market, not a political union.

A question I often put forward to undecided voters is would they vote to join the EU, in its current state? You have Greece which is on the verge of another economic bailout, Italy’s economy is disastrous and the future of the euro is a very questionable one. This union has also brought instability in other factors, such as the destabilisation of Ukraine.

It has also provided tragic opportunities for criminals such as human traffickers and child smugglers, who heartlessly work to acquire a profit via the Schengen Area. Non-existent border control simply doesn’t work, there has to be a sufficient degree of regulation and control.

Therefore I urge anyone who reads this letter to vote in favour of leaving the bureaucratic dictatorship that is the EU. Let us take back control of our borders, legislate our own laws, govern ourselves and resume what it means to be British.
