SOME time ago, when there were several vacant-looking units in the Shambles in Devizes, an old and valued friend of mine, a Devizes resident of some 80 years, who is an avid collector of high-quality objets d’art, decided he would like to rent a small lock-up department with a view to selling some of his stock on a regular basis.
With this in mind, he contacted the council offering to pay three months rent in advance, with the possible option of subsequent rental if the venture proved a success.
He did not even receive a written reply, just a perfunctory phone call informing him that his application had been refused.
Devizes Town Council obviously doesn’t subscribe to the Wiltshire Council motto that “everybody matters”!
