I WAS shocked to see the damage to The Dormy House in Kingsbury Street, shortly after it had occurred last week.
Apparently the driver did not stop and perhaps was even unaware of the serious damage that had been inflicted.
I feel the road signs recently installed are, at best, confusing, particularly for non-UK drivers.
It almost seems that the signs are instructing drivers to turn into Silverless Street, rather than avoid it!
The building overhang on the corner used to be protected by a heavy metal ‘cannon’ mounted into the pavement but after this had been dislodged by traffic it was replaced by a hollow plastic bollard.
This seems a bit like replacing a truncheon with a balloon.
Surely the authorities should be taking a lesson out of the French Highways Authority’s book and installing something significantly heavy and robust on that corner.
In France, it would probably be a large piece of profiled granite.
For Marlborough, how about a large sarsen stone? Errant lorry drivers would certainly know if they came into contact with that.
