SO now Michelle Donelan MP is calling for Wiltshire Council to tender and fund a replacement bus service for Pewsham estate in Chippenham. I’m in total agreement with her, but she knows, like me, just why this won’t happen.
It’s due to Michelle and her government that have, over the last five years, forced Wiltshire Council to cut millions from its budget which includes passenger transport. In other words, there is no money.
Michelle also knows that, due to further government cuts next year, Wiltshire Council is being forced to cut a further £2 million plus from the passenger transport budget; this means there will be no money for present bus services yet alone any new ones.
If Michelle really does care about public transport in Wiltshire maybe she should urge her government to fund it rather than force Wiltshire Council to make more and more cuts to local bus services.
Some weeks ago I wrote to Michelle pointing out these facts, to date she hasn’t taken the trouble to reply.
