With First Bus cancelling the Pewsham to Chippenham town bus on August 23, and no other bus company prepared to replace it on financial grounds, it would appear to be the duty of Wiltshire Council to support a service by way of a tendered contract.
When First Bus cancelled Pewsham they also cancelled the Trowbridge town evening service and the Chippenham to Trowbridge evening service.
Both of these buses received financial support from Wiltshire Council, so they must have saved tens of thousands of pounds (near £100,000 maybe?).
The historic picture is that the council always spends all the money that has been allocated because if it doesn’t it gets less money the next year.
So, will the council seek a replacement for the lightly used evening services in Trowbridge that are mainly used by people who have been out socialising or will they support a sorely needed day service for the people of Pewsham to get to town for their basic requirements?
