AROUND £30 million of cuts need to be carried out, or so endless hand-wringing statements from Wiltshire Council would have us believe. How about getting rid of those in charge of the woefully inadequate electoral roll register?
My mother-in-law moved to Wiltshire from North London more than a year ago and since then has had seven letters from Dr Carlton Brand (electoral roll officer) each requesting, in an increasingly threatening manner, her full address, National Insurance number and previous addresses.
She has also received two doorstep visits from clipboard-wielding electoral roll officers. All this despite her contacting Wiltshire Council with her full details in the first instance.
This week her voting cards arrived; her address is wrong.
