With nearly 200 participants enjoying the ice skating in Pewsey on what was a lovely Saturday afternoon, the Local Youth Network are happy to say the event was a huge success.

The feedback and ideas from the local youth recorded on the day will help to develop other events and activities using the LYN funds held for positive youth programmes by the Pewsey Area Board.

It was good to see young people from the villages across the Vale taking part. One idea for a street dance programme is already being developed thanks to Woodborough Social Club offering their venue.

As a member of the Pewsey Local Youth Network I would like to thank everyone who supported the ice skating event on Valentine’s Day.

Once again the generosity of our local businesses and residents made the whole thing run smoothly for the benefit of all. I would especially like to thank the Co-operative store for giving permission to use the car park, Pewsey Parish Council for much more than just financial support, Local Youth Network members for volunteering all day, the Community Area Manager, Wiltshire Council and Pewsey Area Board for the funding, the carnival ‘barrier men’ for helping with the barriers, Wiltshire Council’s markets officer for the signs and bollards, local businesses for providing food and hot drinks and Pewsey’s Community Youth Officer, Karen Brown and her family, for giving up their day to support this event.

There are new youth clubs starting up and Pewsey Fire Station is becoming a popular venue on a Friday night. The Moonrakers Pub will also be hosting another evening for youth called The Zone today (Thursday) from 8pm til 10pm and the Applecart Café in Pewsey will soon be opening on Sundays; both venues offer free wi-fi. What a great example of community spirit, responding to a local need and entrepreneurship, so that young people have more opportunities to get together safely instead of roaming the streets.
