I walk around Cooper’s Meadow in Marlborough most days and I have never seen people take much interest in the few sheep there, especially the children.
They just run past them without so much as a glance.
A few adults have taken an interest and have called the RSPCA as they were concerned about at least one sheep that was unable to stand and was suffering.
Why do we need to keep a few miserable sheep in the centre of the town? Wiltshire is a rural county and there are masses of sheep around. It is not as if we were in the centre of an industrial city where there are no sheep for miles. If the children want to walk among the sheep then they only have to go to Avebury.
I hope the council will manage the meadow and recreate a meadow environment, a colourful field with wild flowers, and masses of ducklings and cygnets in the river beside it. Now that is what really attracts people, especially the children.
