In her column of September 30 Claire Perry MP tells readers: “I try to stay neutral on planning matters as I usually have constituents on both sides of the issue.” That seems to me to be an extraordinary principle for our MP to apply.

Any issue of local moment, planning or otherwise, will have its supporters and detractors. Will a pusillanimous fear of upsetting some voters cause Claire Perry to take a neutral stance on them all?

Electors, I believe, would like their MPs to consider local issues carefully and to adopt the stance, for or against, that seems right.
