Claire Perry MP seems to continue to bury her head in the sand over the wishes of her electorate for a vote on leaving the EU before the next general election. To suggest that a referendum on this matter, in a coalition government, is undeliverable, is pure nonsense. Her naïve attitude indicates either a lack of Parliamentary experience, which is true, or a reluctance to sacrifice her parliamentary career. Notwithstanding that, she needs to read more closely the terms of EU Treaty obligations, which render impossible the renegotiation and repatriation of EU powers.
Her suggestion that the government’s policy is both sensible and achievable also ignores the fact that the Tories first have to achieve an outright general election win – definitely not looking a forgone conclusion following last week’s by-elections.
Our constituency supporters will soon see the LibLabCon Party start adopting UKIP policies.
These can now be viewed on our Constituency website (www.ukipdevizes.org). There is considerable evidence in the national media reflecting this activity already.
However, Claire Perry needs to watch her six o’clock! For her to consider that Devizes remains a safe seat would be dangerously arrogant.
Tony Molland, Chairman, Devizes Constituency UKIP Association.
