For many months now an unmarked lorry parks outside the Lemon Plaice fish and chip shop in Southbroom Road in Devizes making a delivery. This entails parking in one lane feeding the roundabout onto London Road but also restricting the flow from the roundabout of Nursteed Road and Southbroom Road.

This delivery always takes place on the busiest day of the week, Thursday (market day) and always around 9am, arguably one of the busiest times of the day for traffic.

This is not a quick delivery and I have experienced the delay in getting round this lorry. Traffic builds up along Nursteed Road and Southbroom Road and extends into Potterne Road and Long Street.

This is clearly an obstruction, as defined under traffic law, and I would maintain it is unnecessary.

Surely this delivery could be made at a more convenient time to the general public who have to endure a probable 20-minute delay in their journey.

Possibly the driver and fish and chip shop owner are oblivious of (or ignore) this hold-up but common sense surely must demonstrate to them what is happening. More to the point though, what are the traffic authorities and police doing about it? Clearly the delivery has to be made at some time but would not another time be less of an inconvenience? Traffic congestion in Devizes is very bad at the best of times but here is one traffic jam that could be avoided.
