I was extremely saddened to learn of the demise of well-respected coach operators Hatts of Foxham.

As a teenage bus and coach spotter back in the 1970s there was always a warm and friendly welcome at their yard where I would be given the chance to see the latest purchase and take some photos.

I have watched the company grow from 20 coaches to the massive operation it had become.

With many modern coaches now costing the same as a modest house, add to this huge insurance, fuel and maintenance costs, as well as labour charges, it is difficult to see how any company can make a reasonable profit.

Hatts has worked hard to offer the public the vehicles and service today’s passengers demand and I have the greatest respect for them and other operators during these difficult times.

I would like to wish the directors, staff and everyone else affected by this tragedy all the very best and good luck for the future and would hope a satisfactory solution can be achieved for all.

Let’s not forget this local family- owned operator has provided a safe reliable service for us all over the last 90 years, safely carrying millions of passengers millions of miles. It’s just so sad the wheels have finally stopped turning.
