Yes, Mr Myers, I did indeed read your suggestion (letters, May 29), quite a few times in fact, as I could not believe what I was reading from a member of a local Community Speed Watch Group.
First of all, the vast majority of T-junctions are not stop signs these days, but give way ones. Therefore, once your cyclist had entered ahead of you onto the same carriageway as you, you have responsibility to have been reading the road ahead, and not been in the dangerous position you suggest in the first place, let alone accelerate.
I’m afraid it’s not good enough to dream up hypothetical situations as an excuse to have a GPS speed control override button for use in restricted zones. Let’s leave that to the likes of Mr Clarkson and his gang of petrol heads.
