A big congratulations to residents in the Hardens and Englands area for the resounding victory given to the Lib Dems in last week’s local by-election and a warm welcome to new town councillor Terry Gibson.
The result, with the Lib Dems polling more votes than Conservatives and Labour put together, shows they are certainly alive and kicking in Chippenham. Results do count and this one is an indication that residents appreciate the hard work, enterprise and actions of our Lib Dem town council on their behalf. We are on our way with a new splash pad, then there are enhancements to the Neeld Hall for bigger and better musical and cultural events. Also, following public consultation, we are planning bigger and better uses for Monkton Park and the riverside. Adding to this, we have the huge success we have made of Stanley Park and we are now moving ahead with planning for fishing lakes at Stanley.
Most local councils are shrinking the services they supply but, due to good housekeeping, Chippenham continues to forge ahead.
With a twinkle in my eye, I am hoping for a similar result at the Parliamentary elections next year. One can only dream.
Coun Bill Douglas, Chippenham Hardens & England.
