PAOLO Di Canio insists he cannot curb his passion for the game after he was sent to the stands for the third time this season in the 1-0 win over Macclesfield today.

The Italian was banished midway through the second half after reacting angrily when a foul on Aden Flint went unpunished and presented the hosts with a goalscoring opportunity.

"I don't want to stop the way I am," he said. "I use my way to call my players over; that's just how I do it.

"I didn't leave the technical area or use bad words towards the officials.

“It is clear I receive only damage from the referee this year. I never win the game as a result of a gift. I don’t want a gift but I only get damage and I never protest.

“If they want to send me off every game, then no problem. We will win this league anyway because my team is good enough."

Despite his absence from the touchline, Town did enough to seal victory with Paul Benson heading home the winner in a scrappy encounter.

"We weren't nasty enough today," he added. "It was difficult to judge the opponents but we tried to play football in the right way.

"I think they played for the set pieces but we didn't light the fire straightaway.

"We dominated the game but we weren't nasty enough to win four or five nil."

The victory has moved Swindon to within three points of the automatic promotion places, with the top three all failing to pick up victories in their games.

"This was the game we had to win and we did that," continued Di Canio.

"We knew this was such a key game for us. Now we can travel to Leicester full of confidence and then look at the league again for the Southend game."
