SWINDON skipper Mike Thompson says there is no chance of his side putting their feet up as the season enters its closing stages, with the goal of staving off relegation still yet to be achieved.

The Greenbridge Road side are currently fifth from bottom in South West One East with three games to go, but Marlow are only seven points back two places below them.

Thompson is therefore keen to avoid any slip-up this weekend, especially as his troops face a home match against bottom side Bicester.

Despite a rest over the Easter weekend and a hefty 73-0 drubbing at the hands of high-flying Banbury last time out, there is still plenty to be positive in the Swindon camp.

That defeat a fortnight ago ended a run of five successive victories that has seen Swindon climb the table and Thompson has set his sights on the full five points against Bicester.

“If we were mid-table with not a lot to play for it would be tempting to wind down, but we’re not – and we’re in strong form in the second half of the year,” said Thompson.

“We’ve put a lot of things right following the first half of the season.

“We’re targeting a win on Saturday, we want five points.

“If we get another five points we’re pretty much safe. We know what we need to do and the lads won’t be complacent.

“Bicester may not have won many games, but they have their threats and will prepare well.”

Elsewhere, Royal Wootton Bassett will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host second-from-bottom Grove this weekend.

Bassett were beaten away at Wiltshire rivals Chippenham last time out a fortnight ago.

Swindon New College can climb out of the bottom three in Southern Counties South this weekend, provided they triumph away at Yeovil, who are just two points above them.

Finally, there is also a battle at the bottom for Supermarine in Dorset & Wilts One as they host Trowbridge II – a meeting between the two sides immediately above basement boys Swindon II.
