DEFENDER Chris Hussey wants to see Swindon Town’s ‘big players’ step up and pave the way to a League Two play-off spot, starting tomorrow against Carlisle United.

Hussey, who last year helped Sheffield United earn promotion from League One, believes Town have the leaders required to take the club up the Football League ladder.

The 29-year-old made particular reference to influential winger Matt Taylor, forward Marc Richards and defender Ben Purkiss when asked about experience within the team.

Having been plagued by injury throughout the season, Hussey is pleased to return at the business end of the season.

“I’m back now for the business end of the season. This is where it counts and where we need the big players to play,” said Hussey.

“I think we’ve got big game players in the team.

“We’ve got Phil Brown, Matt Taylor, who has played at the highest level, Marc Richards, Ben Purkiss at the back – there’s a lot of experience in the team.”

Hussey’s return to the first team coincides with Phil Brown’s arrival at the Energy Check County Ground, and the London-born left back admits he has noticed a difference in approach to games since Brown took over.

He said: “I do see a difference.

“The manager has implemented into us, respect the point.

“You can see for yourself. It may have been a toss of the coin the last two games.

“He (Phil Brown) wants clean sheets and to build from the back.

“I think in Monday’s draw at Crawley, we were disappointed, but it could be a valuable point come the end of the season.

“Every game is a big game. We’ve already played Carlisle and beat them, plus we’re on our patch.

“Let’s go and get the three points.”
