THE combined Minety and Cirencester U18 side (Miren) defeated Cinderford 50-15 at Swindon’s Supermarine RFC on Sunday.

Conditions were blustery but good for running rugby and Miren soon took the lead with a long range try from Adrianne Blair, which she converted.

Cinderford immediately struck back with an unconverted try and repeated indiscipline in the Miren ranks resulted in a yellow card for Amelia Buckland-Hurry.

Despite being a player down, Blair immediately scored and converted to give Miren a 14-5 lead.

Solid defence from Miren kept Cinderford at bay but their numerical advantage eventually paid off with a try in the corner.

Immediately on her return, Buckland-Hurry made amends, crashing over after a well-rehearsed penalty move, Blair slotting the conversion.

Just before the interval Blair rounded off an impressive first half with another converted try giving Miren a half time lead of 28-10.

The start of the second half mirrored the first with both teams trading scores, Miren’s through Lauren Aldridge whose excellent support play was justly rewarded after an earlier break by Katie Moy.

Miren lost their influential scrum-half Amie Stephenson with a suspected dislocated finger, but the whole sale regig of the back line seemed to focus them and they finally hit top gear.

A tap and go from Cat Garland and powerful run from Sam Alderman put Josie Snow in near the posts, Blair adding the conversion.

Miren’s heads were now up and a 50 metre run from Garland was stopped just short of the line, but excellent support from Buckland Hurry resulted in her second try.

Snow rounded a solid performance with another try after a move involving the complete back line.

Miren: Alice Evans, Sam Alderman, Rachael Carpenter, Tamara Salem, Rebecca Brown, Chloe Morris, Amelia Buckland-Hurry, Amie Stephenson, Katie Moy, Josie Snow, Megan Saunders, Catrin Garland (captain), Adrianne Blair.
