WOOTTON Bassett U16s travelled to Swindon for their first game of this season’s Wiltshire Cup.

They opened the scoring through Matt Gill, Greg Davies adding a fine conversion.

Swindon pressed, but Bassett broke and Gareth Edwards and Rob Hart set up Same Davies to go in under the posts for a 12-0 half-time lead.

Full-back Dom Lattimer ran in the third unopposed and then handed off three defenders for his second soon after.

Swindon hit back with a converted score, but Josh Jefferys touched down for Bassett and Davies added the extras before Lattimer’s third sealed it.

Captain Oliver Maher said: “That was a great start to the competition, the guys really played well for each other. We’re looking forward to our next pool game against Melksham next month”.

Bassett’s next U16 game is an away friendly at Stow-on-the-Wold on November 1, while the the U17’s host Trowbridge at Stoneover Lane in their first Wiltshire Cup game on Sunday (2pm).
