MARLBOROUGH ended a five-match losing streak in Southern Counties South to reignite their push for a top-four finish with a 19-8 triumph over Frome.

A determined second-half defensive display handed the home side, now coached by coaches Leo Tuliva and Lotu Ngungutau, their triumph, the game having been touch and go at one stage due to a heavily waterlogged pitch.

The visitors got on the scoreboard first with a penalty after 10 minutes but Marlborough replied with some phases of play in the forwards before good passing put Russell Westcott into the corner to score, Garth Bari booting the conversion.

After 20 minutes a high clearance kick from Frome was caught on the run by Inosi Laqekoro, who stormed up the pitch before setting up the ball.

The forwards played a couple of phases before the ball was released to Michael Sims who again showed his pace to score.

Frome fought their way back into the game and scored an unconverted try of their own just after the half-hour mark.

As the first half was nearing completion, the home forwards again drove the ball forward.

Eventually Semisi Rasivo broke free and charged through a couple of tackles to score, Bari converting.

The second half saw Frome applying lots of pressure.

Marlborough lost Will Grant to a yellow card and then a red as he was guilty of clumsy high tackles but held on to claim the four points Devizes recorded a remarkable fourth draw of the campaign as Blandford score a late try to tie things up at 15-15 at the Chivers Ground.

For the first half an hour, both sides remained pointless, with defences well on top despite some strong running from the likes of Devizes' Lewis Paget and Travis Orwin.

The opening score of the day came when Devizes were swiftly running down the left wing and looking threatening, only for an offload to fall into the arms of a grateful Blandford winger who galloped up the pitch to go over.

Devizes had a solitary penalty to show for their efforts, kicked by Rory Brown to go in at the break 7-3 down.

The second half saw Devizes up the ante and immediately start to put the visiting defence under pressure.

The breakthrough came when the ball was worked wide and tighthead prop Matt Bishop found himself in the wide channel with quick hands into the supporting Scott Martin who dotted down in the corner.

Blandford came back and edged their way into the lead with a penalty but were then reduced to 14 men by a sin-binning.

Devizes themselves lost number eight Craig Bryant to the sin bin before Blandford earned a second yellow card for a swinging arm to go down to 13 men.

Devizes capitalised from a lineout and Sam Jones played in the supporting Dodds who hit a fine line to go over, Brown converting.

Blandford dug in and, restored to full numbers, went over for a try out by the touchline to level the scores.
