PEWSEY Vale grabbed a 22-17 victory at Minety in Dorset and Wilts One North.

Minety took the lead with a third-minute Garin Garland penalty.

However, Pewsey responded by driving forward deep into Minety territory and after several phases prop James Campbell went over. Fly-half Tom Regan added the extras.

Minety hit back when winger Ben Langridge charged down a clearance kick to allow Tom McAllister to race through and touch down under the posts, Garland’s conversion giving the hosts a 10-7 lead.

A Regan penalty at the end of the first quarter evened the scores before centre Chris Takel to scored in the corner for Pewsey.

Despite some good Minety pressure it was Pewsey to score next as a kick ahead and chase saw Takel run in for his second of the day. Regan added the two points to give them a 22-10 lead.

Minety pressed hard to get back into the match and were rewarded with a penalty in front of the Pewsey posts in the 58th minute.

From the ensuing tap penalty a ruck was set up on the Pewsey line and Garland fed Hall who crashed over for Minety’s second try. Garland added the extras to leave the score 22-17 in Pewsey’s favour.

Corsham got their season off to a flying start with a 53-7 victory at Devizes 2nd.

A brace of tries from Lewis Jones, while Ed Minty, Harry Beazer, Ben Russell, Robbie Vennard, Alex Bilton and Taylor Ball also scored with 13 points coming from the boot of Dan Goldsworthy.
