DEVIZES picked up a bonus-point victory in their first away match of the season as they defeated Bradford on Avon.

The visitors took the lead when, following a number of phases, the ball was spun out to Mark Carter to run in under the posts.

From the restart, Devizes regrouped and it wasn’t long until Carter was in for his brace after some good carrying from the pack for the centre to crash over. Dan Salisbury was unable to add the difficult conversion.

Bradford looked threatening on the counter-attack with their back-line causing a number of problems, but it was Devizes who continued to cross the whitewash with Josh Gould running in try number three. Salisbury added extras.

Shortly after, Craig Bryant ran in the bonus-point score after some neat hands played in the Devizes back rower to put the Saddlebacks into a commanding 26-0 lead. Sainsbury was again successful from the tee.

Bradford hit back with a converted try of their own before the break, but Sam Jones used his pace to run in their fifth score of the game to send them in at the break 31-7 up.

Bradford were the first side to cross the line in the second period after their scrum-half picked up at the base of a five-metre scrum to dart home and score.

Debutant George Starr grabbed Devizes sixth try of the day after a fine maul move saw the visitors charge over, before Josh Lewis rounded off the scoring after sprinting clear of the Bradford defence. Salisbury again converted.

Devizes welcome Royal Wotton Bassett to the Chivers Ground on Saturday in the Dorset & Wilts 1st XV Cup.
