MELKSHAM opened their Dorset & Wilts One North campaign by getting the better of their local rivals at Lacock Road.

Both teams took a while to settle, with Corsham striking first, with a penalty.

Melksham’s increasing pressure at the scrum and breakdown resulted in the ball going out wide through centre Dave Dyke out to winger Matt Glover, who powered through defenders to get the visitors on the board with a try.

Melksham continued to take the game to the home team with varied attacks but were unable to add to their score before half time.

The restart saw both sides digging in with Melksham rebuilding pressure and territory until Josh Partridge, stepping off the bench, held onto a difficult pass to go in for a try.

Simon Foster added the conversion to wrap up the points for the visiting side.

Melksham captain Callum Hurn said: “We came anticipating a tough game from Corsham.

"Our preparation made the difference for us although game rustiness saw us leave some points out there in finishing.''

"It was a great to get that first away win - a credit to the team
