MELKSHAM booked their place in the next round of the Bath & District Combination Plate with an impressive win on the road at Calne.

The visitors put the first points on the board after working the ball well through the back-line, allowing David Dyke to go in out wide.

The game was strongly contested as both sides sought the crucial next score.

However, it went Melksham’s way as hard work at the breakdown released Nick Suter to charge over, with Simon Foster adding the conversion.

And the visitors got over the whitewash again as the half drew to a close when good lineout ball went through the hands to Chris Mulgrew, who put Melksham 17-0 to the good.

Calne dug deep in the second half as they battled for parity but it was the visitors’ day as they got the next score through a pushover try for Aaron Brailey, with Foster adding the extras.

Calne’s efforts were rewarded before the final whistle when a drive into the Melksham half saw a loose ball snatched up for a converted try.
