CHIPPENHAM surrendered their 100 per cent South West One East record as Witney's forwards earned the visitors victory at Allington Field.

The away side put down an early marker by shunting the home side's scrummage back 30 metres.

However, the home side pushed on, with full-back Jimmy Owen leading the charge and earned two penalties that Sam Saunders landed to give his side a 6-0 advantage.

But Witney's pack continued to make progress and halved the deficit with a penalty of their own before retoring parity with a second kick before half time.

The home side suffered a double blow before the teams turned around as secnd row Aaron Ascott damaged a shoulder before Owen suffered a recurrence of his leg injury.

In the second half the Chippenham defence was eventually stretched to breaking point by an excellent Witney try, which was converted.

As the hosts plotted away back into the match, mistakes and spilled balls halted their progress.

Chippenham thought they were on the verge of the levelling score when Saunders broke the line, but his pass to Steve Barber was intercepted by a retreating defender.
