DEVIZES 2nd captain Gavin Curnow saluted the young players in his side as they claimed a 25-13 victory over local rivals Chippenham in the quarter finals of the Dorset & Wilts 2nd XV Cup.

Curnow, who saw his side score three tries, said: “It was so pleasing to see the way some of the younger players are responding to the faith shown in them and it is a credit to the youth section that they have been able to produce youngsters with such maturity and potential.’’

Ryan Webb missed an early penalty for the visitors, but they soon crossed the try line as wing Luke Cador’s break allowed full-back Scott Franklin to touch down, Webb adding the extras.

A second try followed when second row Seth Robinson bundled over from close range and Webb added the extras.

Chippenham kicked a penalty before half time, but Webb responded after the interval to restore the 14-point lead before the home side scored their first try.

Another Webb penalty took the lead back out to 12 points, but Chippenham’s second try kept matters in the balance.

But Devizes sealed their win as scrum-half Calum Conway took advantage of miscommunication in the home defence to touch down.

Bassett will face Royal Wootton Bassett 2nd in the semi final in November.
