PEWSEY claim the best win of a difficult season with a deluge of second-half points.

With Vale’s pitches waterlogged, the match was switched to Swindon with Pewsey’s attack speed eventually proving the difference after a tight forwards battle.

In the first half Pewsey had possession and field position and threatened the visitors’ line, yielding a penalty that fly-half James Haynes kicked.

Being frustrated by the home defence Vale played too much rugby and five minutes later a pass was intercepted for Swindon to score a converted try.

Just on half time a Pewsey surge forward was rewarded with prop Dave Sharp going over out wide to reclaim the lead. Pewsey came out for the second half with the advantage of the wind and, playing territorial kicking game, dominated the whole of the half, scoring seven tries.

After two minutes, quick ball released a surge down the right and Sharp was in for his second, Haynes adding the extras.

Vale produced more dynamic forward play and the back division always looked threatening.

Flanker Sikeli Ratu, playing in the centre to replace the injured Gareth George, crossed for the next score and, with Swindon down to 14 men through a sin-binning, Haynes finished off win Matty Mercer’s dynamic break before full-back Rats Ratubuli added another try.

Both were converted by Haynes before wing Dan Taylor stepped inside from his wing to beat the defence.

As Swindon rallied with their numbers restored, Pewsey defended well and an individual break from halfway by Haynes took him under the posts.

Another breakout by Vale down the right was finished off by number eight Phil Vallis and converted by Haynes.

Swindon were rewarded with a converted try in the last play of the game.
