PROMOTED Chippenham celebrated their opening match in the Davis Wood League North Division One with a five-star performance on Saturday.

The Bristol Road side, England Hockey Vase semi finalists as well as league champions last term, began their campaign in perfect fashion.

They could have been a goal down within the first minute, but Guy Barrett pulled off a wonderful one-handed stick save in the top corner.

Chippenham began to find their feet and a quick attack led to Ben Jones finding room at the top of D and his shot was deflected in by Simon Walker.

The second goal quickly followed with a break up the left hand side, Adam Cruse sending the ball to Walker whos reverse stick pass left Nick Blumsom with his first goal for the club.

Chippenham continued to control the ball from the back through Andy Edwards, Sam Copeland, Craig Stewart and Mark Knight and a short corner after Cruse turned his defender inside out resulted in Mark Knight scoring from a drag flick into the top corner.

Leominster hit back from a short corner, but Chippenham were soon back on the attack and Snell, Matt Blumsom and Walker set up George Claverley to finish well.

Just before the break, after a string of saves from the man of the match Barrett, Leominster scored a second.

The second half was a controlled affair with Chippenham making their opponents chase the ball.

Only one further goal followed, Knight dispatching a shot into the top corner.
