BASSETT remained on top of the Avon Division aftera tough battle with their localmrivals.

Bassett keeper Paul Warren made two outstanding saves to deny the visitors, but another penalty corner allowed Chippenham to open the scoring.

The leaders quickly hit back through Dan Stanley, who beat three defenders and fired a pinpoint low shot into the bottom corner. Shortly after, Alex Law had a goalbound shot stopped by a foot, but the resulting penalty stroke was saved.

Not to be denied, Law scored from close range after being set up by captain Dan Jeffery.

The second half was a much more even affair, but Bassett struck first after 15 minutes through Kristian Mansfield, who flicked the ball home from 10 yards after another Jeffery assist.

Bassett had to do their share of defending and survived a late scare when Chippenham made it 3-2 after a quickly-taken free hit caught the defence napping.
