DERRY Hill’s Jordan Smith continued his fine rise on the European Tour this week after he shot a six-under par 66 at the Qatar Masters.

The 24-year-old got his second round off to a perfect start with an eagle three on the par-five opening hole.

The Bowood pro, who won the Challenge Tour Order of Merit last year, followed that up with five more birdies with only a bogey on the 15th blotting his copybook on another fine round.

Smith, who also shot a round of 71 on Thursday, has yet to miss a cut in 2017 after breaking into the world’s top 100 following his tied third place finish at the BMW SA Open earlier this month.

In stark contrast, Swindon's David Howell, who has been playing alongside Smith in Doha, endured a miserable second round as he missed the cut for the second week in succession.

The Swindon ace, who was also eliminated at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship after two rounds, was heading home early once again as he shot a two-over par 74.

The 41-year-old hit four bogeys and two birdies on Friday to leave himself one-over overall after an opening round of 71.
