JORDAN Smith suffered a disappointing debut on the European Tour as he failed to make the cut at the Australian PGA Championship.
The Derry Hill player was competing on European golf’s top tier for the first time, having earned his card as a result of winning the Challenge Tour's 2016 order of merit.
However, it was a baptism of fire for the 24-year-old Bowood ace as a six-over-par opening round of 78 put paid to his chances at RACV Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast.
Although Smith clawed back a shot with a one-under 71 in the second round, his five-over total was not enough to keep him in the tournament over the weekend and he eventually had to settle for a tied 105th place finish.
American Harold Varner III won the event and 175,631 Euros top prize after a finishing on 19-under-par.
Smith makes a swift return to action this week at the UBS Hong Kong Open, which gets under way on Thursday.
