CAPTAIN James Williams scored a century as Marshfield made it back-to-back wins at the start of the season with a huge 129-run success away at Malmesbury.

Opener Jeremy Bond (53) set the tone for Marshfield before Williams shared a 115-run stand with Nic Badings (74).

The skipper was eventually dismissed for 101 as his side posted 304-9, with captain Phil Cook (3-68) the pick of the Malmesbury attack.

Malmesbury were always up against it in reply. Despite 86 from Michael Collison, James Howarth (3-26) and Tom Clist (3-55) helped bowl the hosts out for 175.

Marshfield skipper Williams said: “I can’t complain with the start we’ve made. It’s nice to get a couple of early wins under our belts.

“It was a good toss to win. It is always a good track up there and as long as we batted our 50 overs, we were always going to set a competitive score.

“It was a nice position to come in. Jeremy had started us off really well and Nic was timing it nicely too, so it was just a case of supporting him.

“It’s quite a big ground up there and whoever was doing the boundaries wasn’t feeling particularly generous. We got early wickets and we have a couple of spinners and we knew if we bowled good line and length, there would be chances for us.”

Devizes prop up the fledgling table after going down by 135 runs at home to Swindon.

Captain Tom Grant bowled brilliantly to take 6-16 and restrict Swindon to 186-7, with opener Marc Williamson making 57.

However, just two Devizes players made double figures in reply as they were skittled out for 51 as Swindon’s Cameron Baden took 5-16.

Calne are also without a win as an unbeaten 119 from Zwelibanzi Homani saw them crushed by 154 runs at Marlborough.

George Fox’s side posted 220-5 before the Marlborough captain then ripped through the Calne batting line-up, taking 5-38 as they were bowled out for 66.

Robert Palmer agonisingly missed out on a century as Great Bedwyn suffered a 140-run defeat at home to Trowbridge.

Captain Mike Reynolds (119) and Brendan Louw (118) helped Trowbridge set a mammoth target if 332-8.

Palmer led the Great Bedwyn reply but was dismissed on 99 and his side’s hopes went with him as they were bowled out for 192. Reynolds led the charge, taking 4-40.
