HUNDREDS of athletes of all ages flocked to Bowood last weekend to take part in the 2016 Bowood House Triathlon.

The two-day event has three disciplines: the Sprint, Super Sprint and the Tri Star which is for younger athletes.

The Tri Star and Super Sprint disciplines both involve a 400m swim, 12km cycle and a 2.5km run, whereas the Sprint is a 750m swim, 21km cycle and a 5km run.

Saturday’s Sprint winner was Alec Leslie, who was chased by Rob Whalley and Vincent Hounsome. The first women to finish were Tess Warnes, Yvonne Cox and Rebecca Perry, who finished 30th, 32nd and 42nd overall.

Sunday’s Sprint was won by Ross Kent, followed by Felix Wernham and Shaun Green. The first female to cross the line was Heather Booth, who was 10th overall, with Alexandra Cook and Lucy Morrison the next to finish in 18th and 25th.

Saturday’s Super Sprint was won by Joanna Hudson, with fellow females Alison Johnson and Gayle Bell coming in eighth and ninth.

The men fared slightly better, Nick Curwood, Gary Hacker and Kieron Baker coming second, third and fourth.

Sunday’s winner was Rob Gilbert ahead of James Hutcheston and Max Matthews. Julie Maidment, Carly Harvey and Joanna Anderson were the top women, finishing 11th, 15th and 16th.

The event also had a youth discipline, which saw them cover the same distance as the adults, with the race won by James Greenwood ahead of Simon Davis and Jack Powis.

As for the girls, Victoria Price, Eleanor Brandon and Emily Neale completed the top three, finishing 13th, 14th and 16th overall.
