WILTSHIRE cyclist Pete Kibble travelled to Scotland to compete in the three stages of round five of the National Junior Road Race Series.
Ninety-six riders lined up for opening stage, which despite a few breakaway attempts, 18-year-old Kibble, who races for Velocity Global Bike, finished safely in the front bunch, with all of that group given the same time.
Stage two was a very different race, with a fair amount of climbing throughout and a hill top finish.
Kibble broke away from the peloton with three other riders and the the Wiltshire teenager finished third, three seconds behind the stage winner.
The final stage was a 99-kilometre undulating route and Kibble’s job was to ensure he protected his third place on general classification (GC).
An early breakaway made up of 14 riders formed and they started to get a sizeable gap on the peloton, leaving Kibble and the other GC contenders the task of chasing them down.
But the breakaway was caught with 8km remaining, where Kibble secured his third-place finish overall – his best position in a national race this year to put him at the top of the National Junior Road Race series standings.
