MARLBOROUGH teenager Elliot Lassiter will don his first GB vest after qualifying for the World Age Group Triathlon Championships in June.

Lassiter, 17, of Lockeridge, near Marlborough, trains with the South West Triathlon Academy and won the Junior Age Group event at Bedford Autodrome to book his place on the British U20 team, which is set to compete at the 2016 Aviles ITU Sprint Distance Duathlon World Championships, in Spain.

In his first year in the junior year group, Lassiter finished seventh in the first of the National Junior Triathlon Series events – a duathlon at Windsor Great Park.

He will compete in his first full triathlon of the season – the Sospan Spring Triathlon, in Llanelli, South Wales - this weekend as part of the British Triathlon Youth & Junior Super Series.

Lassiter is also one of only a handful top-level junior triathletes in the south west region who have come together for intensive training workshops over the winter, as part of the South West Triathlon Academy.

He trains with Marlborough & District Junior Athletics club, where he runs 1500m and cross country.

He has competed in the national circuit race 12-mile time trial for two consecutive years, with the Cotswold Veldrijden club and won the National Closed Circuit Cycle Time Trial Championship’s 16 age group at Thruxton last October to add to his National Circuit Championship triumph.
