IT IS the short stuff that Will Christofi will be concentrating on this summer after an excellent performance at the Midland Counties 12-Stage Road Relay Championships on Saturday, writes KEVIN FAHEY.

The former Dauntsey’s student clocked the second fastest time of the day over the short stage which suggests he could be in for a very successful summer on the track.

“I will be looking to improve my personal bests over 3000m and 5000m on the track,” said 21-year-old Christofi, who is now studying the Classics at Oxford University.

Christofi’s run played a key part in helping his club, Bristol & West AC, win the senior men’s title as he made big in-roads on the lead held by Cheltenham & County Harriers.

“I didn’t ease down for the event at all and certainly didn’t expect to be the second fastest on the day so that was very pleasing,” added Christofi.

“Now my target will be to run faster at the National Championships and then get ready for my first track race, which will be a 5000m at the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Championships) at Bedford at the end of the month.”
