IT WAS a Wiltshire one-two as Simon Nott and Tommy Davies plundered the prizes at the popular Easter Bunny 10k road race in Yeovil, writes KEVIN FAHEY.

Nott, of Calne Running Club, survived blustery winds and a flooded course to secure back-to-back wins following his success in the Calne Rotary 10k the previous weekend and record his third win of the year having also claimed the Wiltshire 10 title last month.

“Three of us (Nott, Davies and Dan Mapp, of Bideford) stuck together until 5k when I felt I could up the pace slightly and established a lead which I kept to the finish,” said Nott.

“It is quite a quick course but it was pretty windy on Monday and after 1k a section of the course was flooded and we had to run through water for 400 metres that came up to our shins so had soaking-wet shoes and feet after that.

“It was not a day for fast times, just racing the opposition and I am pleased I managed to win and made it two in a row especially as I had been struggling with a cold during the week.”

Nott, who works as an assistant planning officer for Wiltshire County Council in Trowbridge, will now get back to training to prepare for his next race which will be the Corsham St George’s Day 10k on Sunday April 17th.

“I am looking to push on for the rest of the year when my main aim will be to improve my time over 10k,” added Nott.

Davies, who lives in Westbury, was reasonably pleased with his second place as he steadily returns to form after injury.

The Team Bath runner, who works as a sales manager for Saucony running shoes and clothing, was also runner-up in the Devizes 10k the previous weekend clocking 33:45.

At the start of the month he was 90th in the Bath half (78:04), well outside his lifetime best of 68:11, which he set three years ago in Indianapolis. Davies has also run 30:15 for 10k.

ENTRIES are flooding in for the Corsham St George’s Day 10k from Corsham Football Club on Sunday April 17th.

Last year the event attracted 1,000 runners and with a limit of 1,200 and strictly no entries on the day anyone interested should check the website at: corshamrunningclub.co.uk.
