SPORT England’s Satellite Club programme vision is that by March next year, every secondary school and college will be offered the opportunity to host a Satellite Community Sports Club.

These clubs can take place after school, at evenings or weekends, and will support an increase in the number of 11 to 25-year-olds participating regularly in community sport and reduce the number of young people dropping out.

The clubs are driven by a desire from existing community sports clubs and schools wanting to create a new relationship or enhance an existing one.

The clubs provide coaching expertise and new pathways for young people to try a different sport or activity.

Senior Sport Consultant for Wiltshire and Swindon Sport (WASP) Simon Woodhouse said: “Often, the desire is there for clubs and schools to work closely together but sometimes the club aren’t sure which schools to approach or who to contact within them.

"Through regular and direct communication with heads of PE, we have helped identify schools keen to develop a particular sport and can organise for both parties to get together to discuss how they can both benefit from working together”

WASP also have funding available to help clubs get off the ground, which can be used for things like coach development, equipment, and to cover coaching costs in the short term.
