CHIPPENHAM’S Lauren Booth admits all thoughts this month will be on gearing up to defend her title at the British Cycling National Track Championships in Manchester.

The 14-year-old received the national jersey for C1-5 500m time trial last year and wants the success to continue this time around.

Last year she not only took the title but also set a new record of 40.654 seconds as well as finishing second in C1-5 mixed flying 200m time trial.

She goes into the 2015 full of confidence having taken double gold in the para-cycling one lap and 500m time trial and two silvers in the 1000m time trial and the 2000m pursuit at the Sainsbury’s 2015 School Games last weekend.

And with the National Championships from September 25-27 taking place at the same National Cycling Centre velodrome, the Abbeyfield School pupil admits she couldn’t be in better shape.

“My season had been going quite well heading into this event; I got a world best in the Newport Cup and then at the School Games I was pleased with my performances,” Booth said “I’ve got the senior nationals at the end of September. Last year I got a national jersey for 500m, so I want to get that again this year.”

Last year the Carnac Planet X and Disability Sport Wales Cycling Academy rider won five medals at the Sainsbury’s School Games, including two golds, two bronze and one silver.

She was delighted to come away with yet more success.

“It’s quite amazing that I’ve won gold at the School Games,” she added.
