MARLBOROUGH’S early-season momentum came unstuck as they were defeated 6-3 at North Somerset in Davis Wood League Central One.
The visitors started brightly, but were stunned by two quick-fire goals.
Marlborough got a goal back before half time as a quick counter-attack led to debutant Niko Martin firing home and they were level going into the break as Anil Sud’s short-corner strike found the net.
The away side fell behind again in the second half before skipper Rich Holman’s trademark short-corner goal drew them level again.
However, Marlborough looked uncomfortable and Somerset took full advantage to score three more times and seal victory.
Elsewhere in Central One, Chippenham wrapped up a 4-2 triumph over Team Bath Buccs C, courtesy of goals from Ben Pitman-Jones, Mark Knight, Tim Elliott and Simon Walker.
In Conference North, Devizes secured a 2-1 victory over Bridgend in Wales, with goals from Josh Bond and Paddy Gompels.
Wootton Bassett secured a 5-2 victory over North Wilts in their Central Two derby.
Dan Jeffery, Mark Skivington, Ali Sammo, Lawrence Winter and two from Mark Turner wrapped up Bassett’s win.
Chippenham A were comfortable 3-0 victors over West Wilts C in East Central One, Adam Cruse, Daz Hiller and Chris Newton the scorers.
Corsham opened their home campaign in East Central One with a 4-1 win over Swindon B. Tom Bowery scored twice, James Dallaway and Alex Montgomery also netting.
