CASH-strapped Corsham Town made light of the departures of strikers Dan Sloan and Booker Woodford with a four-goal mauling of Radstock on Tuesday.
The pair have decided to quit the club for Highworth Town and Bradford Town respectively, following Corsham’s decision last week to stop paying their players.
But Corsham have found an unlikely saviour in winger Adam Heath, who hit a stunning brace after stepping into the breach up front.
Adam Taylor and Rob Pocock completed the scoring.
Corsham caretaker boss Graham Learmonth said: “Dan rang me on Monday to say he would be leaving the club and that he was probably going to Highworth, although Melksham and Devizes also want him.
“Booker will be going to Bradford Town, which is fair enough because he needs to be paid petrol money as he travels up from Southampton University.
“There’s no hard feelings, they are both good lads and we wish them well.
“We are not thinking of bringing people in to replace them because we’ve got plenty of cover.
“Adam Heath played ever so well alongside Simon Gray against Radstock.
“He has been playing on the right side of midfield recently but he certainly showed us he is a striker.”
Heath put Corsham ahead in the eighth minute with a terrific strike into the top corner from the edge of the box, after a sparkling solo run from the halfway line.
He made it 2-0 five minutes before the break with a cool slotted finish into an empty net from 25 yards, after the ball had broken to him following Gray’s challenge on the Radstock goalkeeper.
Taylor extended Corsham’s lead soon afterwards with a clinical 25-yard lob that caught the goalkeeper in no man’s land.
And Pocock sealed the rout two minutes from the end, half volleying in his first goal for the club from three yards from Jamie Lyons’ cross.
Learmonth says he expects no further players to leave the club, despite the financial cut-backs.
He said: “We’ve got a great bunch of 15 or 16 lads here now who want to stay and fight for the club.
“We deserved everything we got against Radstock because we worked ever so hard.”
Radstock are reportedly £30,000 in debt and Learmonth added: “It was two clubs alike really, but they are far worse off than we are financially.”
Corsham lost 3-1 at home to Sherborne Town on Saturday, with Liam Brown on target for the hosts.
